Study Shows That Business Travel Is A Potential Health Risk

Taking the occasional business trip may not be harmful to your help, but if you are traveling to different places several times a month you may apply for a transfer. A recent medical study has shown that business professionals who travel a lot suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Some say that lack of exercise is to blame, but business professionals are under pressure to perform. Besides preparing for meetings, giving presentation and drafting reports, they also have to deal with their home lives.

Although the salaries for jet-setting business professionals is high, the risks do not justify the rewards. The study also shows that small business owners that travel frequently can develop heart problems. Some of the less dangerous health risks also include, sleep disorders, fatigue, restlessness and depression. The term ‘jet lag’ describes the process that the human body goes through while adjusting to a new time zone. If travelers are unable to fully recover before they fly off to their next destination, the body may respond by completely shutting down.

If you think that your employer is asking you to travel too often you have a few different solutions. You can always go to work for a different company, but you may find yourself in a similar predicament. Taking time off from work may be helpful, but if you can’t afford the loss of income you can try out some different stress reduction exercises. Mediation, ample sleep and vigorous physical exercise can help you to reduce the negative effects of frequent business travel.
