Blogging should be part of the more light-hearted approach to your brand or product/service offering. Personally, I detest those company blogs that shamelessly pose marketing speak and excessive use of keywords for blog entries. But there is certainly no harm in making a few considered choices in your use of words to make sure that you help your blog become more highly ranked in the search engines.
So the first point is to make the blog subject interesting and to be honest in your tone. You’ll be surprised how much mileage you can get out of a well written blog piece if it simply has an interesting take on something topical and is relevant to your readers and industry. Fellow bloggers like to link to other bloggers that they respect and find interesting.
Then you need to familiarise yourself with your blog software and make sure you use it to its full advantage. Most blog software now has several built in SEO tools that you should be utilising. There should be space for you to enter keywords or tags relevant to your post. Make sure you use words or phrases that appear in the body of your text. Choosing a good title will also help your post in the rankings and will also have more effect on drawing potential readers to your post if you sum up your subject matter nicely in the header.
Creating categories for your favourite or most written about topics is also a great way to further organise your blog and the information within it. Remember the rule of thumb that like humans, Google and other search engines like well structured and well organised information!
